Through stewardship, we facilitate the connection between your generosity and our community’s needs. Through the power of endowment, we can achieve CFGF’s for good, forever promise. For everyone.
Stewardship. A word to describe the way we invest and preserve your gifts given through the Community Foundation. We chose this theme because we believe our stewardship of your generous gifts enabled us to fulfill the promise of our mission — to connect generosity with the needs of Genesee County residents.
In 2020, the perpetual nature of our work brought light and hope to others. Responding with urgency to the COVID-19 pandemic, we centered equity by listening to and engaging community voices and developed grantmaking strategies to achieve extraordinary results. A new record for annual grantmaking. Top tier investment performance. Federal funding through the CARES Act. Thirty-three years of consistent, smart stewardship built an infrastructure — your Community Foundation — to do the important work necessary in 2020.
Endowment provides a solid financial base for any nonprofit organization. Our endowment allowed us to maintain our staffing structure and get the job done — from home. We are grateful to our team for leaning into the remote work environment, along with committee volunteers, during this time of unprecedented need.
In partnership with community, we established the Greater Flint Coronavirus Taskforce on Racial Inequities. We relied on this group of 27 multi-sector partners for advice and counsel, listening to their voices, identifying health inequities that surfaced during the pandemic, and creating solutions to fill those gaps. The Greater Flint Urgent Relief Fund was established with the United Way and other partners, quickly raising over $2.5 million to meet the urgency of the moment. Later in the fall we accepted a $2.3 million CARES Act grant to facilitate more urgent relief working in partnership with Taskforce volunteers.
Through stewardship, we facilitate the connection between your generosity and our community’s needs. We strengthen the impact between donors and grantees. And, through the power of endowment, we can achieve CFGF’s for good, forever promise. For everyone.
